Baker Associates president Jonathan Baker retired at the end of December 2019. Baker served over 30 years with the firm founded by his father, Edward Baker, in 1959.
Jonathan Baker joined the firm as an architect upon graduation and became president two years later. He brought experience as a theater lighting designer and a passion for the arts. He also got an understanding of the power of creating an experience for people – an element he infused into all his work.
Baker Associates was first known for its work on iconic downtown office buildings and banks, including the IDS Center, Northstar Center, and TCF Bank Tower. Jon Baker began the firm’s work on theater and automotive dealership projects, launching the decades-long client relationships they still have.
Over the years, the firm has done over 70 projects for automotive clients, including Luther Automotive Group and Carousel Motors. His theater projects included the Jungle Theater, the Ritz Theater, the Illusion Theater, and – most recently – the Capri Theater.
Baker has an exceptional record of establishing solid relationships with clients, many of whom continue to be served by Baker Associates today. This laid the foundation for the process under which Baker Associates still operates.
Jeremy Woitaszewski, AIA, now serves as president, and Kristy Dahlvang, CID is CEO. Both served as managing principals alongside Baker before the transition.
